WHERE: Alton Collins Retreat Center in Eagle Creek, OR. Here's the link to retreat center address. WHAT: We'll be team-building, and gaining knowledge in service-learning, working with diverse populations, mentoring, program and management, and policies and reporting. We'll also have a lot of fun! WHO: All ORCC VISTA Members, ORCC Staff, as well as service-learning professionals, and community partners. carpoolingRIDES TO TRAINING:
Please take this survey to help us figure out transportation to the retreat (it's the same one that's liked from the weekly emails)! We'll update the below list with drivers and passengers as we get details from folks: Car 1: Matt (Driver), Holly, Kristin, Jesus Car 2: Maggie (Driver), Hannah K-A, Robyn Car 3: Lauren (Driver), Corin Car 4: Gabe (Driver), Selina Car 5: Jayme (Driver), Andriana Car 6: Hannah F. So, it’s ORCC’s policy to only reimburse travel mileage for folks who carpool to training (unless it is absolutely impossible for you to do so and you have prior approval from ORCC to drive solo). Of course, it is certainly up to you if you want to drive to Alton Collins alone, but we want to make sure you are aware 100% of the carpool policy! training goalsDuring this training, we will:

Each room at Alton Collins is equipped with a bathroom, a closet area, and beds, dressers, and desks. We should all be pretty comfortable but please keep in mind that the dorms don't have AC, so plan accordingly (you can open the windows through). Your room will either be double, triple, or quad occupancy and ORCC will pre-assign everyone a roommate. If you have roommate preferences, let Signe know ASAP. FOOD/MEALS: We will have lunch at the retreat center on Monday, so you don't need to eat ahead of time. ORCC (through Alton Collins) will be providing lunch on Monday, all meals on Tuesday, and breakfast and lunch on Wednesday. Alton Collins has amazing food - they have an organic garden and they produce their own honey! They are also able to accommodate almost any dietary needs and I've submitted your diet requests to them, so they'll be prepared. ORCC will provide snacks, water, coffee, and tea throughout our training sessions, so there is virtually no way anyone will go hungry! We will do our best to accommodate dietary needs for snacks, but please plan to take care of yourself and bring whatever you need to be comfortable. TRAINING PACKING LIST: Comfortable clothes and shoes. The weather looks like it will be variable showers possible, and you should ALWAYS be prepared for rain and cooler temperatures (welcome to Oregon!). Also, training spaces can be cold and our dorms don't have AC, so pack some layers for more options. You should plan to dress comfortably, so super casual clothes are a-okay. The ONE exception to this is that we will be taking team pictures and individual headshots, so you may want to have a collared shirt or something a little nicer for pics (up to you). Lastly, there are running, hiking, sand volleyball, and other outdoor optional activities to take advantage of! Please also bring whatever toiletries you need, snacks (if you need them), a reusable water bottle (Alton Collins/ORCC will have bottled water, but we like to encourage sustainable practices when we can), and fun stuff board games, decks of cards, ideas for evening activities. We'll plan a campfire for one evening too! WHAT'S PROVIDED: Alton Collins provides linens for the beds and towels for showering. You will be getting AmeriCorps gear, a binder, and training handouts, so please leave some room in your suitcase for the swag you get during training. PARKING: Parking at the retreat center is plentiful, but remember that you'll need to carpool, if at all possible. Signe & Allisha will help you make arrangements. |
